The electric journey: 20,000 km of proof – Scania’s electric trucks deliver on their promise

28 NOVEMBER 2025

Scania is approaching the finish line of The electric journey – an optimisation roadshow. 20,000-kilometre across Europe where six battery-electric trucks were tested together with customers in real operating conditions. The journey has provided valuable insights: the vehicles perform well in daily use, today’s charging infrastructure can support operations, and interest in understanding what electrification means in practice continues to grow.

Over a period of four months, Scania has driven more than 20,000 kilometres with a varied selection of electric trucks – including distribution, waste collection and construction applications. The purpose was to meet customers, offer hands-on test drives, and demonstrate how our e-mobility solutions function in real-world operations.

A key takeaway is that seeing is believing. For many customers, experiencing an electric truck first-hand has helped clarify how factors such as range, payload, charging and drivability come together in practice. Others – who are already exploring electrification – focused their discussions on TCO (Total Cost of Ownership), selecting the right specification and identifying the most suitable charging setup for their operations.

During the roadshow, Scania used a combination of depot charging via Erinion and public charging points, including Milence stations. While today’s infrastructure made the journey possible, it is clear that continued expansion will be essential to support wider adoption in the heavy-duty sector.

The electric journey also confirmed that our modular electric trucks perform reliably across diverse environments – from motorways to rural and off-road conditions. These insights contribute to a broader understanding of how electric transport can be integrated into different types of operations, and what will be required as the transition continues.

In the film below, Alexandra Österplan, Marketing & Communication, eMobility Stream Leader, and Fredrik Allard, Head of E-mobility, share their reflections from the road – including key takeaways from the team, customers and drivers.
